BIO
Born in 1980 in Braine-l’Alleud (Belgium).
Lives and works in France.
Graduated with honors from the Beaux-Arts de Paris in 2007and awarded the Roger Bataille Prize. At the École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Antoine Roegiers began his work on the Flemish masters, which led him to draw on the great works of Bruegel, Bosch, and Rubens, as well as the 19th-century Belgian painters and engravers Ensor, Rops, and Spilliaert. He uses a variety of media and techniques, including oil painting on wood and canvas, video animation, and pen and acrylic drawing, thus engaging with the great masters of several centuries through the prism of a contemporary perspective.
Since 2018, Antoine Roegiers has been creating a series of paintings that tell a single story over several years. He also creates animated films of these paintings, which he presents as video objects combining painting on wood and animated film. He is represented by the TEMPLON Gallery (Paris, Brussels, New York), Wilde Gallery (Geneva, Basel, and Zurich), Keteleer Gallery (Antwerp), and Robilany+Voena Gallery (London, New York, and Milan). His work has recently been exhibited at the San Telmo Museum in San Sebastian, at the Museo De Bellas Artes de Asturias in Oviédo, Kunsthalle Tübingen, Bozar in Brussels, Museo Nacional de Escultura in Valladolid, Musée Félicien Rops in Namur, Mu.zeed'Ostend, at the Albertina Museum in Vienna, at the Palacio Bellas Artes in Mexico, Harvard Museum in Massachusetts, Palace of Fine Arts in Lille, or even at La Maison Rouge in Paris.
