Paintings inspired by the video CARNAVALS (2018).

At the heart of the project lies the video CARNAVALS (2018), the foundational work and visual matrix from which the paintings emerge. It serves as both conceptual and aesthetic catalyst, setting the rhythm, dramatic tension, and exuberant universe that permeate the series.

Taking inspiration from the Old Masters, whom he regards as his personal artistic fathers, Carnavals unfolds as an allegorical feast portraying the vanity of our society. It is a celebration of chaotic excitement and unadulterated pleasure — a world intoxicated by excess.

Like a child playing with puppets, Roegiers borrows fragments, figures and backgrounds from paintings by Rubens, Brueghel, Bosch and Ensor. He blends these references with a generous dose of imagination, allowing his characters to run wild and celebrate as if there were no tomorrow.

Through this theatrical abundance, the work reveals a subtle reflection of our own carelessness —
a timeless dance between heritage and invention.
